The BIA of Central Ohio welcomed a new Executive Officer last month, and while Tod Bowen may be newer to the role, his passion for our region, and for the people who build it, is already unmistakable.

Tod brings decades of advocacy, leadership, and public policy experience to the BIA, but what stood out most in our early conversations was more than his resume. It was his genuine excitement for the work our members do every day.

Housing matters significantly to thriving communities. Central Ohio is in a growth position—and if we don’t get housing right, we can’t continue the growth we’re on.

Tod Bowen, Executive Officer

For Tod, this isn’t just an economic issue. It’s personal. He loves Columbus. He loves Central Ohio. And he sees the BIA as a critical voice in ensuring the region continues to be a place where families can put down roots, businesses can grow, and communities can thrive.

Seeing the Industry Up Close

In his first weeks, Tod has met with the board, joined committee conversations, and participated in panel discussions. And one thing has already made a strong impression:

Our members truly care about the communities where they build homes. Yes, you’re in business to make a profit, but you’re also helping people achieve the American dream. And you take that seriously.

Tod Bowen, Executive Officer

Tod believes this perspective is a powerful part of the BIA story, and it’s one he’s committed to amplifying across Central Ohio.

A Vision for Growth, For the Region and the Association

Looking ahead, Tod sees a big opportunity for the BIA to be a stronger, more visible advocate for homebuilding and development:

“The biggest opportunity for the BIA is to become an even stronger cheerleader for homebuilding and growth. We need to constantly connect what our members do to why it matters for communities. I’m ready to be that voice: to go everywhere, talk about it often, and make sure people understand how vital housing is.

At my first board meeting, I shared three things that guide me: First, housing matters. Second, we are here to serve: our communities, our members, and our industry. I’ve already seen that at our board meeting. The 17 people who sit around the table of the BIA board are giving of their time to help an industry they care about. And third, growth is vital, both for Central Ohio and for the BIA itself, in membership, influence, and impact. I’m committed to helping both the industry grow and the BIA itself grow.”

And Outside the Office? Here’s the Person Behind the Position

Members will get to know Tod quickly. He’s friendly, open to conversation and not at all shy about his sports loyalties.

  • Favorite teams: The Cincinnati Reds (“since the Big Red Machine era”) and the Ohio State Buckeyes
  • Surprising hobby: He can juggle thanks to a family Christmas gift that came with expectations
  • Still competitive: He plays regular pickup basketball with guys much younger than him

And if you need an unexpected conversation starter?
Ask him who he’d invite to dinner. His top pick: Margaret Thatcher, whose conviction and leadership during a difficult moment in history he finds deeply inspiring.

Say Hello When You See Him or Send Him an Email

Tod is eager to meet members, visit job sites, and hear directly from builders, associates, and partners across Central Ohio.

He’s fully committed to telling the industry’s story—loudly, consistently, and with heart.

Welcome to the BIA, Tod. We’re glad you’re here.
