Multifamily Weakness Pushes Overall Housing Starts Down 18.7 Percent in November

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 - A sharp decline in multifamily starts pushed overall housing production down 18.7 percent in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.09 million units, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Commerce Department. Overall permit issuance was also down 4.7 percent.

Builder Confidence Closes Year on High Note

WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 -- Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes jumped seven points to a level of 70 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). This is the highest reading since July 2005.

Congress Reinstates Health Reimbursement Arrangements

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 - In a major victory for home building firms and other small businesses across the land, the Senate today passed the 21st Century Cures Act, a comprehensive health care package which includes a provision to allow employers to provide Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) to help their employees pay for health insurance. The House approved the bill last week and President Obama is expected to sign the measure into law shortly.

Bob Webb, one of Muirfield Village’s original homebuilders, recently purchased the last sizeable land parcel in that community. His company, the Bob Webb Group, plans to build 18 homes on 12.3 acres there starting this winter.
