Overview

This training is an over view of the changes to the ENERGY STAR for Homes Program for Version 3.

It will cover the:

  • Required Homebuilder Training
  • Homebuilder’s Water Management Checklist
  • The Rater’s Thermal Enclosure Checklist
  • Rater’s HVAS Quality Installation Checklist
  • The HVAC Contractor’s Quality Installation Checklist
  • The value proposition for the upgrades and a discussion of the benefits of the upgrades in a highly competitive market

Terrance Smith
Regional Quality Assurance and Technical Training Consultant
Terrance Smith is the Regional Quality Assurance and Technical Training Consultant in Ohio and Kentucky. He is involved in assuring compliance with utility sponsored residential efficiency programs for new homes in Ohio and Kentucky, including the EPA’s ENERGY STAR for Homes Programs.  He also is involved in technical training for builders, home energy raters, insulation and HVAC contractors and other new construction professionals.
Terry has 35 years of experience in energy efficiency, specifically in the fields of weatherization, HERS rating and energy code compliance. He was deeply involved in the launch of the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) in Ohio and served as the primary staff person assigned to the HERS Technical committee and also served on the Steering committee.  He later became the Director of a HERS Provider.  He also started a HERS Training Provider company where he developed an online training program for Raters.
