Each year, the BIA
Scholarship Committee bestows several scholarships to high
school seniors or students currently enrolled in college or
post-high school training. Qualified applicants are pursuing a
field of study directly related to a BIA member profession.
The Scholarship Program is a function of the BIA Foundation. It was created to
encourage and promote a
highly qualified workforce for the building industry.
The purpose of the scholarship program is to give
bright, young students an added incentive to enter the residential construction
industry. So, first priority is given to the applicants pursuing areas in a
field related to the building trades and other related fields covered by the
categories of membership in the BIA. Each applicant had to submit a completed
application, a 400-word essay, two reference letters and an official grade
transcript.
Three types of scholarships are offered:
-
An
overall BIA member scholarship based on academic record and school and
community involvement. This scholarship may go to an employee of a BIA
member of record, or to a child or grandchild of an employee.
-
A
non-member scholarship based on above applicable criteria.
-
A
scholarship based on financial need and meeting above applicable criteria.
Scholarship Applications are due to the BIA by Wednesday, April 30, 2008.
